🤫 The hidden reason you're procrastinating (it's not laziness)

I had coffee with a friend the other day,
and she shared a mistake many of you are probably making.
As we sat in a lovely small cafe in our small picturesque mountain town,
she shared how she's planning an event for her business,
and said she "needs to force herself" to book the venue.
The way she said it—with that heavy sigh—told me everything I needed to know about how she was approaching it.
The one word that changes everything - and reveals the reason for procrastination
So I suggested something different:
"What if you chose to book it instead?"
Here's the thing about forcing vs. choosing:
When you force yourself,
you create resistance.
Your brain immediately starts looking for ways to avoid or escape.
It's like trying to push a boulder uphill—exhausting and inefficient.
But when you choose, something shifts.
You tap into better motivation.
You become aligned with your decision rather than fighting against it.
You take the path of least resistance,
which means you're more likely to actually follow through and succeed.
The deeper truth about procrastination
And here's the deeper truth:
It's always a choice anyway.
Even when you think you're "forcing" yourself,
you're still choosing to do it.
You're just making it harder than it needs to be.
My friend paused when I said this.
You could see the lightbulb moment đź’ˇ
The heaviness lifted,
and suddenly booking that venue felt possible and even fun instead of burdensome.
From information to transformation: Your turn
So,
The next time you catch yourself saying "I need to force myself to...",
or "I must...", "I should...", " I need..." ?
Try this instead:
"I choose"
Notice how different that feels in your body.
Notice how your relationship to the task shifts.
The wrong question vs. The right focus
Now, you might be wondering if she booked the venue.
But that's the wrong question.
Because whatever she did or didn't do is on her,
and should neither motivate nor discourage you.
One of the secrets people most often forget is to focus on themselves.
So, learn the lesson and use it on yourself, focus on yourself.
What's one thing you've been trying to force yourself to do?
Reply and let me know—
I'd love to hear how reframing it as a choice changes things for you.
