“I can’t meditate, my thoughts are racing”Aug 02, 2021

❤ Hey there Better Lifers!
Here's a great question I received from Daniel (I changed his name to keep his privacy).
Whether you meditate or not,
the answer will help you see another way in which your mind/beliefs/stories are sabotaging your life and happiness -
And how to deal with that.
So I decided to share it with you.
I started your free meditation training,
and I have a question:
Your instructions are undoubtedly very good,
but so far, I have not had much success with it.
It's my crazy mind, not your course.
Whenever I sit to meditate, the resistance is unbelievable.
My thoughts are racing, and even after half an hour,
I'm still occupied by turning my attention to the sensation of the air going through my nostrils every few seconds.
So I'm still working on it.
A few words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
Sometimes I feel like not everybody is made to ever achieve a level of relative peace."
👉 And here's my answer to Daniel:
For your critical question.
I'm happy you're asking - it's a huge key for being able to step forward and transform/evolve.
I want you to put aside the stories you have about yourself and about meditation.
Here's the thing -
and I mentioned it in the course too, I think in the q&a session:
I've been meditating since 2003 daily.
I'm teaching meditation, mindfulness, etc., for many years now, even in jail and in different countries and continents.
I can absolutely guarantee to you that what you described is the most common experience for everyone.
It is still many times my own experience too!
The point is that it really doesn't matter.
The attachment to a certain result is what's in your way.
The other way is to notice our crazy mind's activity and understand that:
1. it's how we're all wired, not just you.
2. That's precisely why working on it is necessary.
3. Please do remind that ("it's how we're all wired, not just you") .to yourself.
It's a critical understanding that will always serve you,
and help you have compassion for yourself,
faith in your strength and evolution,
and answer your ego as it keeps whispering (or shouting...) b.s stories into your mind.
4. Answering your ego's stories is one of the most powerful, life-changing skills anyone could ever have.
It's that big.
No, it's way bigger than that.
Way bigger than any words could say.
5. Most people don't see that (" it's how we're all wired, not just you") about their mind
6. Therefore, they will never work on their mind and will never have more peace, happiness, clarity, etc. in the long term.
7. The fact that you see all that,
the fact that you're doing the work,
the fact that you keep meditating despite frustration and expecting some specific results that are not happening yet -
is your proof of growth, strength, and lifeline of future change.
8. Furthermore, it is even proof of your current, immediate change.
Even if you were able to do that before,
you are now able to do it even better.
It's like lifting weights -
Even if you were outstanding,
and were able to lift 1 ton before?
Since now you're practicing and keep meditating (and asking questions) despite what you feel (instead of giving up),
it's like saying you keep going to the gym,
lifting weights even though you can't lift the 1000 tons you want to lift yet,
still doing the work even though the distance from 1 ton to 1000 tons seems un-bridgeable.
But doing that just made you able to lift 100 tons,
as opposed to 1 ton.
And got you so much closer to be able to lift 1000 tons.
Is there still more work? For sure.
Your abilities get bigger, better & stronger each time you confront your stories, fears, and seeming(!) unsuccessful attempts to reach the experience you're after.
Does that make sense?
9. While it might be seemingly(!) true that you're not getting the results you're after...
You're getting much more important results than you are after, even if you don't know it yet.
It's a long-term game,
and if you zoom out and see the bigger picture?
This will become very evident to you (perhaps with some guidance from someone who can help you see the bigger picture more clearly).
I truly hope this helps, dear Daniel.
There's so much more I can say...
But there's always more.
And too many words can also be in your way.
If there were a bottom line, it would be this:
You're doing so much better than you think -
it's just that the ego's stories are getting to you and messing up with your ability to see things clearly.
That is happening to all of us, of course.
But you have the wisdom to keep going, and to ask, and the desire to pass through all those stories and do the work.
Add clarity, compassion, and patience to that mix, and you're unstoppable.
As the course in miracles says:
"What you need to learn now is that only infinite patience can produce immediate effects [if you're not faking patience to get results... ].
This is the way in which time is exchanged for eternity.
Infinite patience calls upon infinite love, and by producing results now it renders time unnecessary."
And it also says:
"Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait,
and wait without anxiety.
Patience is natural to the teacher of God.
All he sees is certain outcome,
at a time perhaps unknown to him as yet,
but not in doubt.
The time will be as right as is the answer."

Keep up the great work!
